David Newland Gives BobCat a Whirl

BobCat House Concerts have been gone for a while, but we're back. And we have a great person to get us back into giving house concerts a whirl. David Newland is a friend to music, in as many ways as you can imagine. He's one half of the brain trust behind the superb Roots Music Canada website. He's the originator of Toronto's  Corktown Ukelele Jam. He is a member of the McFlies, a Toronto-based band that puts a quirky acoustic spin on 80s hits. He's brought his humour and knowledge to hosting countless festivals and concerts.

But most of all, David is a musician. His first studio CD, Give it a Whirl, is a collection of songs that remind us of what's great about folk music. Rhythms that infect the listener's toes; imagery rooted in nature; a warm and comfortable voice that invites you into the song, and superb musicianship (guests on Give it a Whirl included Dala, John Sheard, Good Lovelies, and the Bebop Cowboys). The CD is deceptively simple sounding in the same way that the best folk albums are, providing layers of enjoyment. And I think you'll have an even better time with David live at our house.
